My Barefoot Belizean Adventure Day 3

Having returned to our hotel pretty late the previous night, we decided to take advantage of having the luxury to sleep in.  Eventually we aroused from our rum induced sleep and ventured out to the hotel's restaurant for some breakfast.  There is nothing better than strawberry pancakes and a huge latte to cure a hangover!

About an hour after breakfast Christian joined us at our resort.  He and I continued our fascinating conversations regarding exploration.  It was refreshing to meet someone who has had and desires to have even more misadventures around the globe; such as falling out of a helicopter over Guatemala and almost dying in a tiny airplane during a rainstorm in South Africa.

I wish I could say our day was more exciting than sun baking, drinking (yes, again!), and swimming, but for us that was perfect.  Especially since I was still bummed about not being able to dive the Blue Hole.

As the sun started to disappear over the horizon, we all three decided to rent a golf cart and drive into San Pedro.  The hotel advised us not to do it, as the "road" into town was not deemed very safe, but that only made us want to do it even more.  How great is it that the only modes of transportation in the city are walking, riding a bike, or driving a golf cart?

Adrienne was our brave driver and she did a pretty good job of avoiding the potholes and stray dogs.  We even picked up a hitchhiker along the way!  Despite the mosquitoes attacking us, it was quite a fun experience, especially trying to make it up a bridge with 4 people in the cart.

And I thought it was just the potholes and stray
dogs we had to be careful of!

It took us about 30 minutes to get to San Pedro.  By the time we arrived we were starving, so we decided to eat a nearby pizza shop.  During dinner we talked to some ex-pats about why they decided to move to Belize.  It is always interesting to hear the reason/s someone would give up their citizenship.  It is such a huge decision (one I sometimes secretly fantasize about doing myself).  Though with a gorgeous country like Belize it is easier to understand why.

Christian and I's turn to pose for a picture together.

Once we were finished with dinner we set off to find a bar.  I was craving a good mojito and a view of the ocean.  Luckily, that is exactly what we found.  Instead of chairs though, there were lounge type beds.  After a day in the sun and several drinks, it was not very conducive for keeping one energetic.  Nonetheless, it was our last night and we wanted to make the most of it!

I could have easily fallen asleep after this picture.

Before we called it a night, Adrienne and I decided to buy some beautiful conch shells to remember our beautiful trip.  We then said our sad goodbyes to Christian and began our late night drive back to the hotel.  One our ride back, we talked about how 3.5 days was too short of a trip.  I was only getting into vacation mode by day 2, but it would have been worth flying all the way to Belize for 1 day!
