Mi Loca Aventura de Nicaragua el Día 3 (Part 2)
The main reason why I chose Nicaragua, other than wanting to go on a road-trip, was because of the hotel Piedras y Olas (Pelican Eyes) located in San Juan del Sur. I cannot remember how I found out about this hotel, but after some research I just knew that I had to visit this hidden place in the Pacific and thus once I had made a reservation there, I then started planning the rest of the trip around it. I had also seen pictures and read information about the city itself, but nothing prepared me for its beauty! It is one of those places where you are not quite sure if you should tell everyone you know about it, so that they too can experience its amazingness, or if you tell no one about it, so that it forever remains your own little secret get-a-way. Obviously, I'm choosing the former, as I simply would not want to deprive anyone of it.
Our 1st view of San Juan del Sur from the highway.
As we drove through the downtown area, we could smell the saltwater in the air and our hearts began to race with excitement. In order to get the hotel we had to drive up a steep hill. Again, our car stalled. Thankfully, some of the hotel staff was able to maneuver it in such a way that it made it up the hill after a couple of attempts.
Piedras y Olas is a truly one-of-a-kind resort. Once you are there you feel as though you are in your own little world of luxury. I think this is definitely a time where the pictures can do all of the talking. So, get ready to step into Paradise, otherwise known as Casita Villa Dulce Vida (a 2 bedroom ocean-view house), por favor...

After we finally came to our senses and realized that in fact we were not dreaming and we were actually staying here for 3 nights, we headed to the closest pool for lunch, drinks, and sunbathing...oh, and more drinks!
While I continued to marvel at the view, Adrienne made friends with the resident cat. She affectionately named him Lucas.
Then it was time for dinner. The Lonely Planet guide suggested El Colibrí (Hummingbird) restaurant. It was only about a 10 minute walk from the resort, however the resort insisted that they drive us there.
We chose El Colibrí, because it was known for its intimate atmosphere and delicious vegetarian meals. It can be difficult when traveling in Latin American countries to find veggie food, so we jumped at the opportunity to see what they offered. Sure enough our meals were outstanding and I highly recommend dining there if you should ever find yourself in San Juan del Sur. Plus, the sangria was yummy!

We declined a ride back to our villa from the resort and instead chose to take a late night stroll by the ocean. Adrienne and I agreed that it was very synchronistic that the name of our villa was La Dulce Vida (the Sweet Life), as we were indeed enjoying the sweet life. This day even inspired me to possibly get a tattoo with the words "la dulce vida" to remind me just how extraordinary traveling is.

From our veranda we had gorgeous sweeping views of the ocean and the countless infinity pools throughout the resort's property.

We returned to our villa just in time for an epic sunset. As we watched the sun disappear over the horizon we realized that we had found the perfect haven away from home. Nicaragua is full of unspoiled beauty and untold adventure.
