Mi Loca Aventura de Nicaragua el Día 5 (Part 2)

So, where do 2 adventurous ladies go to celebrate their last afternoon in Nicaragua???

Adrienne and I posed this question to each other as we sipped refreshing mango margaritas poolside.  In the midst of our welcoming dilemma, I struck up a conversation with an American man lounging nearby.  He was visiting San Juan del Sur with friends, whom he was hoping would buy some property that he was selling.  He told us that we needed to check out Playa Coco before we left.  In fact his words were, "It has an epic beach with the best sunset in Nicaragua."  Always a sucker for sunsets that leave me speechless, I convinced Adrienne that we just HAD to go there.

Now, keep in mind that this man told us that it would take about 20 minutes to get there and that it was an easy drive.  The sun was already beginning to set by the time that we got on the road.  Thus, time was of the essence.

The view at the beginning of our drive.

Within 10 minutes of our drive, the road brought us into a tropical rain forest and it was no longer paved, rather it contained copious amount of potholes.  We knew at this point that it was going to take a lot longer than 20 minutes to get there and it was not going to be an easy drive in our tiny, unpredictable car.

Also, there were no signs and we were having to stop and ask if we were going the right way every couple of miles.  Normally, I would have just relaxed into the journey, but I was concerned with every minute that went by since we were chasing the fleeting sun.  To make matters worse, the potholes and the hills got even larger.  We almost got stuck countless times (sans cell phone).

Over an hour later and about 5 years off of our lives, we arrived to our destination.  We quickly ordered 2 margaritas to calm our nerves and than began to wander around the beach.  It was definitely an impressive place and we basically had it all to ourselves.  There is nothing quite like a deserted beach, huh?

We then grabbed a seat here and let nature work her magic in front of our eyes.

And while the man that told us about Playa Coco was wrong on pretty much every account, he certainly was not wrong about the sunset.  Thank you, oh thank you Universe for making our paths cross, so that I could find this unforgettable place!

As the sun disappeared over the horizon, Adrienne and I agreed that usually the most beautiful places in life are the ones that require work to get to.  In that moment, I felt such peace and I hope that I can return to that moment in my mind when I get stressed.

Asi es la vida, or such is the life!  Our motto for the trip.

Sometimes you just have to let go, especially when traveling.  If you do, it sure can lead you to some pretty spectacular places!  I have always loved the quote, "Tell life your plans and watch her laugh."  I think that sentiment is so true, because this was definitely the perfect ending to our trip and it was not in our plans.

Endnote:  Thanks Adrienne from the bottom of my heart for driving hundreds of miles, for trusting me enough to follow my lead without any question, and for being you my darling.
¡Un beso muy grande!

Us looking out into the vast ocean and dreaming about our next adventure together.
